6th Asia Pacific Smoke-free Meeting.
The Action on Smoking and Health Foundation (ASH Foundation) supported its network partners in sharing their tobacco control work at the 6th Asia Pacific Smoke-free Cities Conference, which focused on smoke-free tourist destinations.
The event was organized by the Vietnam Tobacco Control Fund of the Ministry of Health and the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA). It brought together over 150 representatives from 10 countries: China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Thailand's representatives were selected from three areas that have successfully implemented strong policies and clear guidelines for smoke-free tourist sites. The delegates were:
- Ms.Em-on Maneekul, Tourism Development Officer at the Khlong Thom Nuea Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Krabi, representing the Smoke-free Khlong Thom Hot Spring Waterfall.
- Ms.Kemmawan Hemmarat, a radio host and news anchor for NBT Phuket, representing the Smoke-free Phuket Walking Street (Lard Yai Market).
- Ms.Kanokpan Rattanawiwek, a reporter and program producer for the RNN news agency in Ratchaburi, representing the Smoke-free Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.
The conference was held from November 20-21 at the Hoi An Beach Resort in Hoi An, Vietnam.
